Burdened

A burden is often referred to in shorthand fashion. We just refer to the burden as “It.” The burden is sometimes so heavy that naming is no longer needed. “It” will do!

I find that burdens come in many lengths and in different weights. But when any burden is bearing down, it feels awful, terrible, absolutely terrible!

Some burdens are relatively short-lived. Others seem to never end. Whether long or short, a burden can be a spirit-killer.

Fortunately, most of us alternately go under, and out from under, a burden. That alternation is a blessing when I am facing or struggling under a burden. Even while the burden hangs heavy I often have the sense that “this, too, shall pass.”

This has usually been my pattern. For instance, right now I am not aware of a burden in my life. But I remember that I have been under the weight of hundreds of burdens in the past. It is, therefore, true that each burden did pass.

Hopefully, it will be that way for all of us. Since I have no way of knowing your burden, I can’t estimate nor evaluate its strength or its length. But I do have hope that your current burden will pass and that you may find your spiritslaughing– soon.

Look in the Bible at Galatians 6:2 “Bear one another ’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.” (NRSV)
